North Vancouver siblings, Stephen Naito and Brooke Campbell, are teaming up to open a ramen bar in the Lonsdale area of the city.
The duo hope to open the Hachiro Ramen Bar by the end of April at 140-16th Street West in North Vancouver.
The siblings grew up in Pemberton Heights and say they often visited their grandparents in Japan, where sitting together and eating ramen remains one of their best memories.
“This was a big reason why we chose to start our own ramen restaurant, right here in our hometown,” said Stephen.
With two made from scratch Tonkotsu and vegetarian broths, Ramen and its different variations would be Hachiro’s main focus.
“All of our broth is made 100 per cent from scratch in our restaurant and our chashu (pork belly) is Sous Vide for 8 hours before being grilled. For those not in the ramen mood, we also offer a variety of rice bowls, salads, and appetizers,” he said.
Hachiro will also be offering a variety of tasty cocktails developed by well-known Vancouver mixologist, Shaun Layton, he added.
Stephen said they chose to open in Lonsdale because of the vibrant food culture in the area. The 16th street location was particularly desirable because it’s just off of Lonsdale in a cozy pocket neighbourhood.
“Brooke and I have done our best to marry our Japanese roots with our Vancouver upbringing to create a unique take on traditional ramen, and we are so excited to open Hachiro this April,” he said.
