Here is your chance to be a local hero and contribute to your community.
North Shore Rescue is now accepting applications for those who want to be part of the team.
NSR accepts applications in the spring, holds interviews in early summer and brings on new members in September.
The deadline to apply is midnight of May 31.
But being part of the North Shore Rescue team is not for the weak of heart– or muscles. The ideal candidate needs to have a high level of physical fitness.
Some measures of that fitness included being able to do the Grouse Grind in less than an hour, be able to carry a backpack that weighs 20-50 pounds in uneven terrain over long distances, and being able to lift weights that exceed 50 pounds.
The ideal candidate will have a high level of North Shore trail knowledge, be experienced in climbing, mountaineering and ski mountaineering and have Avalanche Safety Training and CPR skills, among other thing.
A minimum five years commitment is required. A detailed criteria list can be seen on the North Shore Rescue website.
Those selected will become a Member-in-Training, a two-year term in which probationers do regular training and work towards skills required to become a full-team member.
A probationer will have to pass a practical and written examination, as well as meet attendance and other performance criteria before inducted as an active member
If you are interested, or know someone who is interested, all relevant details and the application form can be obtained from the North Shore Rescue website.
