District of North Vancouver is seeking public opinion on a new playground in the Bridgman Park.
From November 13 to December 3, residents can share their views on what features they would like to see in the new playground.
The playground is located in Bridgman Park along Mountain Highway, just north of the existing recreation centre. Currently, the park has a large, multi-bay swing set, a small two-bay swing set, and a multi-level play structure.
These play features are nearing the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced.
The new playground will be a “design/build” project, which means the companies who bid on the project will have creative licence to come up with designs that are shaped by public feedback. They also must meet district-set requirements.
The playground area will be fully fenced for safety and to prevent dogs from accessing the site. Quiet enclosed area to meet the needs of children with autism, and touch, sound, movement and colour design in the playground will be encouraged.
The survey closes in December, and construction on the playground is expected to begin in the summer of 2020.
The new playground is expected to open in the fall.
District earlier worked on revitalising the Bridgman Park in 2017, working to protect and enhance the creek, riparian, and forest habitat as well as improving the paths.
The playground is the final components of the Bridgman park revitalisation.
